Stone Story RPG Game Review

Martian Rex and Standard Combo launched Stone Story RPG Game on Steam for PC in July 2023. Android users may get it on Google Play. RPG, adventure, casual, and indie with a twist make it a fun and interesting game. You play as a stone who must join nine powerful Soul Stones to restore light to a world in darkness. The game combines genres into a unique experience. Stone Story RPG Game is known for its AI-controlled exploration, fighting, and looting. Though an auto-RPG, it’s not idle. Strategy, timing, and customization are key to winning the game.

Gameplay

The story mode follows the main storyline of the game, where you have to travel through eight unique locations, each with its own meticulously detailed environments and intense boss fights. The story begins with a stone. That stone is actually apparently the head of a man we would call a hero. Or heroine. Or Dave. Whatever you like. The man collects more stones in the area around him, and finds that these stones become useful weapons against the creatures roaming around. Soon they find another resource, and this opens up more things that can be crafted from the resource. Weapons, armor, accessories, and chests can also be found. The most important thing you’ll find are special stones that provide major new features and serve as the MacGuffin you’ll be chasing for most of the adventure. Most have big, angry, hungry things. Press or tap those stones as needed to get them out of their dirty appendages.

Complex

As you play, the game becomes more complex. This is not at all the case, mind you. But you do have a crafting system, gear with elemental attributes, the ability to set different load-outs, and more. You will discover new areas and encounter puzzles that you must solve using items. Naturally, there are a lot of things to kill and a lot of things to collect. Soon you’ll have to exploit fundamental weaknesses to have any serious chance of success, and you’ll find yourself flipping gears on the fly to gather resources and exploit weaknesses. I would say that I am busy in an empty game. And you have to keep your gear at its absolute best. Whether it’s making crafts, lucky drops, or picking up things from the shopkeeper, you’ll be banging your head against the wall if you don’t have the right tools.

Issue

Okay, time to talk a little weird. Stone Story RPG Game is a free game for mobile phones. This is not a free game on PC. There is not a single IAP that unlocks the game. A quick look at the list of in-app purchases in the App Store shows things like bags of crystals that go for fifty bucks, single weapons that cost ten bucks, and of course the inevitable deals that probably aren’t very good deals at all. . The game would like you to pay something, which is reasonable. It’s not asking for the thirty dollars it deserves on Steam. How you feel about that is up to you. But the type of monetization used here forces me to really consider how it presents things.

Final Thought

I think Stone Story RPG is a game that any fan of RPGs or mystery adventures should give a little of their time to. The presentation is great thanks to those ASCII graphics, and the soundtrack is almost as mesmerizing. It surprises like some of my favorite games, and it cleverly reveals its layers. You can play the entire game without spending a dime, and that’s a lot of quality entertainment for free. That being said, the way the game tries to sell its IAP seems a bit. It seems too strong a word, but ‘repulsive’ is the one that immediately comes to mind. Like someone is having a light dream and a character pulls you aside to remind you that you’re asleep. There’s an illusion being woven here, and the game has to break it to try to sell you something, anything. A chip in a grand boulder of play.
